How To Put More Time Into Your Life
Do you ever feel like there's not enough time in the day? You've just realized it's time for bed, and you still haven't accomplished all you set out to do today? Are there days when you wonder where the time went? Here are some tips that may help you manage time better:

DO THE WORST FIRST
Have you ever made your 'To Do' list and found yourself doing those tasks that you enjoy the most first? Usually these are the tasks that willnot move you forward toward your goals nearly as fast as those tougher tasks that you really need to get done. It is much easier to call a friend who you enjoy talking to than to do your taxes, renew your driver's license, write that report or pay your bills. Whether you are willing to admit it or not, all of your daily tasks become more difficult when you put them off, and the longer you put them off, the less likely you are to do them at all. Resolve to make your task list and choose the toughest item on it to do first.

DO THE RIGHT THING RIGHT
Doing the right thing is more important than doing things right. Doing the right thing is effectiveness; doing things right is efficiency. Have you ever worked very hard on a task and did a job you could be proud of only to discover that it was the wrong task to be working on? It is much more important to choose the right task to do and do it somewhat well, rather than choosing the wrong task and doing it perfectly. Focus first on effectiveness (identifying what is the right thing to do), then concentrate on efficiency (doing it right). This one tip alone can give you hours, days, weeks or even months of time back into your life.

SINGLE HANDLE ALL TASK
The problem with technology is that it causes too many interruptions in life. Cell phones, pagers, instant messaging programs, alarms, faxes and the like interrupt us more than ever before. Also of course there are other people that interrupt us many times without our consent. Research has shown that on average it takes a full 15 minutes to get back to the same place on a task after each interruption. Interruptions aside, many tasks take much longer than necessary because of starting and stopping work over and over. If you focus 100% of your efforts on a single task until it is completely done, you will find that you can accomplish much more and have more free time.

KNOW WHERE YOUR TIME GOES
It's happened to all of us — it's late in the day, you haven't accomplished what you wanted to do, and you wonder exactly what happened to all the time. If you want to manage your time better, it is essential that you account for where you are spending your time. Planning or writing a 'To Do' list is the same as budgeting your money. Accounting for what you actually did with your time is the same as financial accounting. What chances do you think a company would have of staying in business if they did not account for their money? The same is true for you — your chances to succeed in life are much lower if you do not account for your time.

In October 2004 Kneson Software will release the Time Registration System — a program that continuously accounts for your time. You simply input the various projects you are working on and add all the activities you do during the day regardless of project then tell the system the time interval you want it to popup and ask you what you are doing. This popup window takes a 'From' and 'To' time, asks for the project and task you have been working on during the last interval, and can be immediately closed if you don't want to input anything right then. You can read more about Time Registration System by clicking here.

I Am Thankful...
  • For the teenager who is watching TV instead of doing the dishes, because that means she is at home and not on the streets.
  • For the parking spot I find at the far end of the parking lot, because it means I am capable of walking and that I have been blessed with transportation.
  • For my huge heating bill, because it means I am warm.
  • For the lady behind me in church that sings off-key, because it means that I can hear.
  • For the pile of laundry and ironing, because it means I have clothes to wear.
  • For weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day, because it means I have been productive.
  • For the alarm that goes off in the early morning hours, because it means that I am alive.
  • For the taxes I pay, because it means that I am employed.
  • For the mess to clean after a party, because it means I have been surrounded by friends.
  • For the clothes that fit a little too snug, because it means I have enough to eat.
  • For my shadow that watches me work, because it means I am out in the sunshine.
  • For a lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning, and gutters that need fixing, because it means I have a home.
  • For all the complaining I hear about the government, because it means we have freedom of speech.
  • For my children, who give me the chance to see through the eyes of innocence and be a kid myself again.
  • For the arguments with my spouse, because it means that I am not going through life alone.
  • For the weeds I spend hours pulling in my garden, because it means I am not seeing my garden from six feet under it.

How To Assure Success At Anything You Want To Do
Have you ever heard that the definition of insanity is doing the same things and expecting different results? It's true — if you are unsatisfied with the results in your life, doing the same things will not improve your situation. You must break out of your rut and make some changes if you have determined that you are not getting where you want to go in life.

Several motivational speakers have outlined a 4 step formula that will assure your success:
  1. Decide what you want in life — create and write down your goals.
  2. Take action — take massive action toward their accomplishment
  3. Notice what your actions are getting you.
  4. If the results are not moving you toward your goals, change plans and go back to step two.

Do this over and over and you will find success at whatever you endeavor to do. The trick to make this formula work, and the step that most most people miss is step three — notice what your actions are getting you. Missing this step is the reason so many people keep doing the same things over and over and fail at accomplishing their goals. However, this step is very misleading because often it is in the midst of many small failures that goals are accomplished. Abraham Lincoln failed in his bid in many elections never winning one until finally becoming president of the United States. Colonel Sanders, the founder of KFC was broke and barely able to survive with only a great chicken recipe when he struck out to find a backer for his restaurant chain. He received over 1,000 rejections before he succeeded in getting his first investor. Thomas Edison failed to create the light bulb over 10,000 times before he succeeded. How did these great men know to keep trying when they had so many failures along the way? Therein lies the difficulty of step three above — you must try to know if your actions are moving you toward your goals even in the face of multiple failures, while at the same time trying very hard to know when your actions are not accomplishing what you want. It is an incredible dilemma and really an art form to know whether to keep doing the same things or give up and change your goals because your current actions will never work. Think very hard and focus your efforts on step three constantly, and if you know that your current actions are not moving you toward your goals but you keep doing them because they are comfortable or enjoyable you must break out of your rut and your comfort zone and force changes in your life.
