If a low resolution image is useful to you at about a 10-20% enlargement (such as slightly enlarging it to use on your own web page), Imagener will still perform better than Photoshop® or Paint Shop Pro®. To demonstrate, we enlarged a low resolution cell phone photo (below) of a guy we found parked by the beach sleeping (a spontaneous photo we took because we only had a cell phone camera - see our October 2005 article "Digital or Cell Phone Camera?" here).

The above photo came from a Nokia 6600 cell phone. Notice that it is not suitable for display or printing at only 150 dpi (dots per inch). Understand that when a picture is taken that is small or lower than at least 200 dpi it probably is not suitable for display uses that require high resolution like brochures or framed photographs. LOW RESOLUTION ENLARGEMENTS COMPARED
We enlarged the image above to 200% using bicubic enlargement outside of Imagener, and then the enlargement engines in Imagener Professional and Imagener Unlimited respectively:

Of course none of these results are frameable, but you can see how Imagener enlarges these low resolution images better than high end expensive photo software can. See how bicubic enlargement (image on the right) shows pixelation that the Imagener enlargements have resolved? We displayed this low resolution image on purpose to magnify the differences visually.

Just because an image looks good to the human eye (the original first image above), if it has been optimized for display on a web page it has had much of the image information pulled out of it on purpose so that it downloads faster. Some images can look surprisingly acceptable even at resolutions as low as 72 dpi. Images need a minimum of 200 dots per inch and be of sufficient size to for most uses other that display on a website. For printable or frameable results, 300 dpi and 240 pixels X 240 pixels is a recommended minimum to follow.

This is a common problem, especially for "old" installations of the Microsoft Windows operating system - computers that have not had Windows re-installed in a very long time. Over time, viruses, malware, spyware, etc. tend to become lodged in places that anti-virus software cannot find it, or pieces of the Windows operating system become corrupt or deleted.

WE RECOMMEND that you run Windows Update at least every week to keep your computer up-to-date regarding security fixes and patches, but we also recommend that you install Visual Shield, a small program that puts a programmatical barrier between the operating system's much harsher crash recovery error traps and the user interface, allowing you to save your work without losing it before the system crashes. Visual Shield is not intended as a program that can stop blue screens, but for some errors, it can recover the system fully.
